Papio Valley Nursery has been working with the City of Omaha to recycle thousands of yards of waste wood that accumulates in the city dump locations. Insects, disease and big storms have done great damage to the trees here in the Heartland and many times they must be removed and destroyed to avoid future damage to life and property. Before Papio Valley came on the scene, the city would be charged by other mulch producers around town to remove the mulch from the cities parks. Under the current agreement, Papio Valley is moving the mulch at no charge to the city!
Papio Valley is producing a high end mulch product with this recycled wood waste from the City of Omaha. We purchased a Rotochopper grinder in 2020 with the help of Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. Along with Rotochopper, NDEE and the City of Omaha, Papio Valley Nursery will be recycling this wood waste for years to come, providing a great product for the landscape industry and jobs for hard working Nebraskans!
Currently, nursery plastics are going to the landfill at an alarming rate. Some of the recycling processes have changed in recent years, and the black plastic pots are no longer recyclable in most communities. We are teaming up with Green Earth Nursery and Container Recycling to help reduce these pots from being throw away. We have built a program that will allow the pots to be clean and reused or turned back into plastic for other industries. We are now able to keep plastics out of the landfill and cut the expensive dumping fees that result when they are thrown away.
